Ag Day at the Capitol – February 8, 2024 – Tambara Garrick, Moment of Contemplation on behalf of Senator Troy Hashimoto to the Hawaii State Senate

From Tambara Garrick:

“Aloha Senators,

Today, as we gather in the spirit of unity and aloha, we stand at the confluence of remembrance and renewal. Six months ago, our beloved Maui was scarred by wildfires that tested the limits of our strength and the depths of our compassion. In the face of such adversity, the people of Hawaii showed the world the true meaning of resilience and community.

Today also marks Ag Day at the capitol. This is not a mere coincidence but a poignant reminder of our capacity for regeneration and growth. Agriculture, at its core, is about nurturing life from the earth, a principle that resonates deeply with our journey of recovery.

As we honor both these significant events, let us draw inspiration from the land itself. Just as the ‘āina heals and regenerates, so too shall our communities. Let us pledge to rebuild not just buildings, but lives, fostering a future where sustainability and aloha guide our actions.

In this moment of contemplation, let us remember the lessons of the past six months – resilience in the face of adversity, the power of community, and the ever-present promise of renewal.

Mahalo for your strength, your compassion, and your dedication to the people and the land of Hawaii. Let us continue to work hand in hand, heart to heart, for the prosperity and well-being of all.

Together, we will move forward, stronger and more united, with a deepened commitment to protect and cherish our ‘āina and each other.

Aloha.”
