This unprecedented period will come to an end. While things may never get back to “Normal” that we knew, travel, sitting in a restaurant and social togetherness will all come back. One thing that the dining public will certainly have is a heightened awareness of a restaurants Food Safety. Your staff must be knowledgeable on what steps and procedures are needed for providing safe food, and your guests expectations.
Various industry organizations have stepped up and are offering FREE online courses. ServSafe© is offering their Food Handlers online course. This class is great for your cook AND service staff. It reviews the basics of safe food operations in a fun and engaging presentation. It is done on their computer or tablet, and can be paused at any time. There is a 45 question assessment quiz at the end, and a Certificate can be printed. This is not the ServSafe managers course ANSI recognized certificate that the HI DoH requires for the PIC on duty, but a course that you request your staff to take. If you have staff members that had recently not passed the ServSafe Managers Course, this may be a good review before retaking the Managers course and exam.
ServSafe also offers two FREE videos that go over safe food and packaging in to-go and delivered foods.
