Back to School – with HRAEF

School is back in session and the Hawaii Restaurant Association Educational Foundation is gearing up for our most exciting year yet working with 11 high schools around the state with our Hawaii ProStart program! As we work to carefully align each high school with industry mentors who will engage with the various high school classrooms and inspire our next generation, we could use your help! If you or someone you know may be interested in getting involved with a local high school, please reach out to our ProStart Coordinator Marcus Fikse at prostarthi@gmail.com.

The Hawaii high schools currently active in the program are:

  • Kaiser
  • Moanalua
  • MIlilani
  • Roosevelt
  • Farrington
  • Castle
  • Pearl City
  • McKinley
  • Maui HS
  • Lahainaluna
  • Kohala
  • Coming soon:
  • Leilehua
  • Kahuku
  • Kaimuki

Opportunities to get involved include:

  • Chef mentoring to instructors and to students in the classroom and for competitions
  • Restaurant Management/Business skills mentoring and job shadowing
  • Internships at your restaurant/business
  • Fundraising and scholarship opportunities

The HRAEF’s ProStart Coordinator is excited to attend the ProStart Leadership Forum in San Francisco in October where he will have the opportunity to network with and learn from the Coordinators from every other state. He will come ready to pick their brains about what makes their programs successful and bring back to Hawaii information that will help us grow and increase our impact in the community.

Stay tuned for more exciting announcements as we put the final touches on our fundraising plans for the next few months! There will be many exciting opportunities to get involved and to make a significant impact in our industry by inspiring and supporting Hawaii’s youth.
