As we wrapped up the 2018-19 school year, the Hawaii Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (HRAEF) was very honored to award a ProStart student the first scholarship from the foundation! Jimmy Nguyen from Farrington High School completed all of the requirements to earn his Certificate of Achievement (COA) which is a nationally recognized credential issued by the National Restaurant Association. Since he is the first student to receive this, the HRAEF presented Jimmy with a surprise scholarship to assist him with tuition expenses and he begins studying at the Culinary Institute of the Pacific at KCC in the Fall of 2019.
To receive the COA, Jimmy completed over 400 internship hours in the kitchens at Duke’s Waikiki, passed a formalized year-end exam his junior and senior years, and worked through a list of on-the-job competencies all through the ProStart program. We are very proud of him and look forward to following his future success in Hawaii!
In addition, the HRAEF was one of two featured beneficiaries of the Pau Hana event on May 29 which was held in the lobby of the Convention Center after the first night of the Hawaii Hotel and Restaurant Show! We were so thrilled to be able to partner with the HLTA to help plan this event which benefitted both of our organizations.
