Founded in 2000, the award-winning Original Hawaiian Chocolate Factory is the nation’s first tree-to-bar operation. North Carolina natives Bob and Pam Cooper own and operate the Keauhou-Kona plantation and factory to produce single-origin chocolate exclusively from 100 percent Hawaii cacao.
A member of the Hawaii Department of Agriculture’s Seal of Quality program, OHCF offers milk, dark and rare criollo chocolate. A food finalist in the Martha Stewart American Made Awards, the company has been featured in national TV and print media, including the Food Network. Original Hawaiian Chocolate is used by chefs nationwide, as well as being a featured ingredient in various made-in-Hawaii products.
Excellent-ranked plantation tours are Wednesday and Friday mornings; Chocolate Shoppe hours are 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday through Fridays when visitors can watch a 15-minute video detailing everything from tree harvesting to chocolate production. New products exclusive to The Chocolate Shoppe are specialty bars containing Kona coffee, cacao nibs and sea salt.
