MAHALO from the Chairman – September 2017

Last week Monday I was very fortunate and proud to be in attendance at the HRA’s crown jewel event.  On September 18th, 2017, we held the 11th annual Hall of Fame awards banquet and had the pleasure to honor some of Hawaii’s most influentia

l restaurateurs and industry leaders.

Award Banquets don’t just happen.  They are a labor of love that takes weeks and months of planning to pull off.  I would like to take a second to recognize all of the members of our Hall of Fame Committee that have taken time away from their families and businesses to help put on this amazing event.  Thank you to Heather and Dan Pence, Gerda Tom, Sharon Shigemoto, Kelii Gouveia, and Mark Weisbrod.  Also, thank you to our Executive Director Gregg Fraser and his amazing team, Sunny Obrey, Holly Kessler, Jeremy McOuat, and Brandi Kiana-Jo; for all that they have done to support this event.

From all of us on the committee and all of us who attended, a very special thank you goes to our Hall of Fame event Chair, Anne Lee of Honolulu Magazine. Anne has been helping to put on the Hall of Fame since its inception.  Because of her passion and dedication to this event she was asked to Chair it in 2016.  Since then she has never looked back, working tirelessly to make sure that each year is better than the last.   Anne has been part of the Hawaii Restaurant Association for the last 11 years, serving in various capacities to help the organization flourish and grow.  In addition to being an Account Executive at Honolulu Magazine and Board Member of the HRA, Anne is also the President of HUGS (Help, Understanding and Group Support), and a mother of three wonderful kids.

Anne, from all of us at the Hawaii Restaurant Association, we want to recognize you for all that you do to support the HRA and the HRA Hall of Fame.  Your help in making this event possible is appreciated by all!It was undoubtedly a night to remember!  Not only for those inducted into the Hawaii Restaurant Hall of Fame, but for all those who were in attendance, it was a night filled with great food, great drinks, and plenty of laughter and stories.
