2017-2018 Hawaii Restaurant Association Chair Tyler Roukema

July 10, 2017 (HONOLULU, HI) –The Hawaii Restaurant Association announced that it elected a new board of directors at its 70th annual membership meeting held in May at the Kahala Hotel and Resort. The 44-member board represents the interests of more than 6,000 restaurants statewide and will be led by an executive team chaired by Tyler Roukema of Outback Steakhouse.

“I could not be more honored to be the Chairman of the Board for the Hawaii Restaurant Association for 2017-2018,” said Roukema. “The talent level that we have sitting on our Board and the restaurants that belong to the HRA are some of the best in the business.  I am humbled to be seated at the same table as these fine individuals.” The directors include 33 regular members from across the restaurant industry who serve a three-year term and 11 allied members from supporting communities who serve a two-year term.

The board also announced that since 2016, in conjunction with the HRA Executive Director and his staff, it has increased association memberships by 40 percent and had positive cash flow at the end of its fiscal year on December 31. “The HRA has done some truly remarkable things over the last couple of years … events are being sold out and the HRA is creating a name stronger than ever before,” said Roukema.

The 2017-2018 board, Executive Director and staff will continue to build membership; be a voice at the legislative level; have amazing events; and develop its ProStart Program, a two-year training initiative that teaches culinary techniques and restaurant management principles to junior and senior high school students
