New Member Profile: Uncle’s Ice Cream

Introducing new member, Uncle’s Ice Cream. Owners “Uncle” Paul and Barbara Logan are passionate about spreading joy and connection, one truly special ice cream sandwich at a time. In order to maximize the quality and the “Wow!” factor with each one, they make both the ice cream and the cookies in small-batches, using super-premium, natural ingredients. “When people try our ice cream sandwiches, they tell their friends about them,” says Paul. “We work hard to make them that extraordinary.”

Since their humble start six years ago at the Waimea Valley farmers market, they’ve become an island-wide phenomenon, known for featuring the extraordinary flavors of Hawaii – lilikoi, coffee, banana, and more.

The Logans have been marriage and business partners for 32 years. Their complementary skill sets and prior experience as restaurant owners have proven invaluable in growing the business.

Paul grew up on Oahu and as a self-taught chef, he enjoys creating his own flavors – caramelizing fresh bananas, creating his own fudge and caramel sauces from scratch, and cold-brewing fresh-roasted local coffee. He’s also developed a vegan line that has been well-received. “I don’t cut corners,” he says. “We really want the customer’s experience to be extraordinary.”

The bulk of their business is wholesaling to restaurants, markets, the military, and event coordinators. Their special-order smaller sized sandwiches are especially popular for weddings and corporate events. Whole Foods Markets picked them up in 2016 as did the commissaries and exchanges in 2017. Today, you can find their ice cream sandwiches in over 50 establishments island-wide and the company has just been named to Pacific Business News’ Fastest 50 for 2019.
