Message from the Executive Director

Aloha!

Your Government Affairs Committee & Chair, Victor Lim may now take a well-deserved breather for the next 2 weeks. Then, we will be starting up our committee meetings again, strategizing on how we will be uniting as an industry, along with our industry partners, HLTA, HFIA & HCC for next year’s legislative session.

Did you see the article in the National Restaurant Association’s Front Burner?

“While it appeared in recent weeks that Hawaii was on the verge of adopting a $15 minimum wage, the bill was shelved just two hours before the legislative deadline thanks in part to the hard work of Legislative Chair Victor Lim and the Hawaii Restaurant Association, as well as the Hawaii Chamber of Commerce, among others.

At the same time, the industry made progress on another bill making its way through the Aloha State’s legislature. It originally called for a comprehensive ban on polystyrene and single-use plastic straws, bottles, bags, stirrers, and utensils, was amended to create a “plastics source reduction working group” to study the issue and make recommendations at a later date.”
