HRA Educational Foundation Non-Profit Status Approved

Exciting News!

The Hawaii Restaurant Association is thrilled to announce that it’s Educational Foundation has been approved for 501(c)(3) non-profit status! The Hawaii Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (HRAEF) will serve our community by offering job-training and readiness throughout all of Hawaii to people of all ages.

The Foundation, along with the incredible support and dedication of many hospitality industry leaders, has already began assisting high school students interested in culinary and hospitality management via implementing the ProStart program with the support and guidance of the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. ProStart is a two-year restaurant management and culinary curriculum which replaces the texts that high school teachers use in their classrooms. Hawaii is the latest state to adopt this program which has been wildly successful since the mid 1990s all around the country. Currently 11 high schools on Oahu, Maui and Hawaii Island have adopted the program which elevates and encourages students to go beyond the classroom and take part in internships and community service events. Completors earn a National Certificate of Achievement upon high school graduation and also qualify for college credits through the UH system and at colleges on the mainland.

For more information about the HRAEF or to find out how you support the over 200 students who are currently benefitting from ProStart, please get in touch with our ProStart Coordinator Marcus Fikse. We are actively looking for restaurants for our students to do their internships as well as searching for mentors to come speak with our students in the classroom.
